#23 - Rebecca Roth - December 2, 2017 - Greenbelt, MD

I've known Rebecca since the late summer of 1989.  We met in August of that year as we both were photo students at RIT and lived in a special interest dorm called Photo House. It was a co-ed floor in a dorm that was mostly comprised of photography majors - our floor had a small studio, a print finishing area, and a great black and white darkroom.

Becky graduated from RIT with a degree in photojournalism.  She later moved down to Washington, DC as was a staff photographer for Roll Call Newspaper on Capitol Hill.  She later went on to work as a photo editor for USA Weekend, TMG (now Manifest), and for National Geographic’s Television and Film Division.  While she worked for TMG she assigned me to photograph portraits of astronaut Neil Armstrong for the cover of a magazine.

Becky now works as an Imaging Coordinator and Social Media Specialist for ‎NASA Goddard Space Flight Center where she edits and publishes the numerous images that NASA produces on daily basis on social media platforms like Flickr and Instagram. LinkedIn did an impressive interview with Becky this past summer that describes very well the work she does at NASA.  One of the feeds on Instagram she posts to has 2.2 million followers.  A typical NASA Goddard Instagram post can get 20,000 to 60,000 likes.

I photographed Becky at NASA Goddard's visitor center in Greenbelt, Maryland one Saturday afternoon in early December setting up photos around various space craft museum pieces. Ultimately we moved into a conference room where I set up my backdrop.
